Safety Tips and Crimes of the Week December 13/07
With the Christmas shopping season upon us, Crime Stoppers and area police would like to share a few tips with you, to ensure you enjoy the experience and do not become a victim of unscrupulous criminals.
With the shorter daylight hours, if you are returning to your home or vehicle with parcels, be aware of your surroundings and people loitering in close proximity, especially after dark.
Always lock your vehicle before heading into the stores and malls.
When leaving parcels unattended in your vehicle, lock them up in the trunk and out of sight of prying eyes.
When paying for items with your debit card, or withdrawing cash from the ATM, shield the machine with your hand or entire body when entering your PIN number.
Never leave your purse or wallet unattended in a shopping cart or a change room when trying on articles.
Wrapped presents look lovely under a Christmas tree and especially so to thieves peering through windows. Keep this in mind when deciding where to place the tree and when to put the gifts underneath it.
And finally, if you decide to order anything on-line from the internet, be sure that you only go to secure and trusted sites.
From all of us at Crime Stoppers, have a safe and enjoyable Holiday Season.
